Preventative and Children Care

Preventative dentistry is a field that involves the prevention of future complications and the maintenance of your oral health. It typically involves an examination to look for high risk areas:

  • Food trap
  • Fracture lines
  • Deep fissures
  • Loose fillings or restorations
  • Early decay
  • Oral hygiene

Often for younger patients, the most common preventive care treatments are:

  • Education
  • Fissure sealants

When a tooth has very deep fissures, we normally place a thin layer of composite material to cover these food trapping areas

  • Fluoride
    • Baby teeth and new adult teeth usually takes three years in the oral environment to fully mature as they absorb the minerals from your saliva, toothpaste and fluoridated water.
    • At every hygiene appointment, we will apply topical fluoride which prevents the growth of bacterial and remineralise early decay lesions.
