Did you know?

Dental diseases can exist even when you have never experienced any discomfort as it often never does cause discomfort until it becomes a full blown infection. At Peaceful Dental, we aim to catch these diseases early to ensure you can comfortably eat, talk and avoid toothaches.

Gum disease

Gum disease or gingivitis is very common and it is the irritation, redness and swelling of your gums around the base of your teeth. We strongly advise that everyone takes gingivitis seriously and treat it regularly every six months as it can very easily progress to jaw bone disease which is a very aggressive infection of the bone that supports your teeth.

What causes gum disease?

Gum disease is caused by bacteria sticking onto your teeth. Plaque is an invisible, sticky film made out of bacteria that forms on your teeth within minutes after you brush your teeth. If this sticky film continues to accumulate and is not brushed away every day, it will harden and become tartar or calculus which causes redness, swelling and bleeding of your gums. Sometimes it can even progress to become a severe case of gum disease or aggressive jaw bone disease.

How do you know if you have Gum disease?

  1. If you brush your teeth and you realise that you are bleeding
  2. When you floss gently but you bleed from your gums
  3. Please feel free to give us a call (hyperlink to contact us)

Gum disease is something that will come back regularly if not constantly looked after professionally. As a general rule, it is highly recommended that you visit a dentist every six months for a thorough examination and professional scale and polish appointment. This way, we can ensure that your gums and your bone (Hyper link “bone” to jaw bone disease) stay healthy and catch any active decay lesion early and prevent future complications.)

Why are your teeth important?

Your first impression, is your smile.

Relationships – Your teeth play an important role in your confidence, your health and your life. A smile has day-to-day benefits as it gives us greater confidence as well as influence our social lives, careers and relationships. Not only that, a smile is contagious to your family, friends and your kids.

Nutrition – All your teeth serve the purpose of being able to eat different types of foods. Crunchy vegetables and fruits are all important parts of your diet which become very difficult to eat when you start losing back teeth. Each tooth is designed for specific reasons. Front teeth for cutting, canines for tearing and molars for crushing and they all work together. If you lose one tooth, you lose the function of two and the other pairs of teeth start to wear away faster. So if eating, general health and your well-being is important to you, then keeping your teeth healthy should be a priority.

How often should you see the dentist?

It is highly recommended to see a dentist every six month for your examination and professional scale and polish. As various diseases can develop as early as one week:

  1. Active Decay or Cavity
  2. Gum Disease
  3. Jaw bone disease
  4. Toothache
  5. Broken tooth

The listed above is something we can avoid with the regular visit to your dentist at Peaceful Dental.
